As remote work becomes permanent, the answer to 'where should I live?' is no longer measured by distance to the office but by internet speed, cost of living and community. We evaluated the towns in Türkiye that stand out for remote workers.
Urla – Close to the city, next to nature: 45 minutes from central İzmir, with strong fibre infrastructure. Co-working spaces are opening among the vineyard houses; the entrepreneurial and creative community is growing fast.
Seferihisar – Slow city, solid connection: Türkiye's first Cittaslow has seriously expanded its fibre coverage in recent years. The cafés and cooperatives in Sığacık double as daytime work spots. Strong market and producer network.
Fethiye – The digital nomad scene: With foreign digital nomads settling in, Fethiye has developed co-working spaces and an English-speaking community. Mild climate even in winter, life by the sea. Accommodation costs rise in high season.
Ayvalık – Art and calm: With Cunda's stone streets, artist communities and its position between İzmir and Istanbul, Ayvalık is a favourite of creative professionals. Internet is good in central neighbourhoods; check village areas in advance.
When deciding: Rent for at least a month before moving and test the internet with your own devices at different hours. Ask neighbours about power-cut frequency; a UPS and a 4.5G backup are essential just in case.
